New Brighton has an intriguing history, some of which is recorded on a plaque in its entrance area (right)

Indeed, it inspires a personal memory linked with the Swinging Sixties, a decade when every teenager in our city wanted to play a part in a musical revolution.Bill Harry, founder of the former Mersey Beat magazine, believes there were up to 200 local bands in existence at that time with The Beatles, quite naturally, top of the pile.
