Police handling of woman's death to be reinvestigated by IOPC

|September 25, 2025
THE Independent Office for Police Conduct has announced it will be reinvestigating the force's handling of a case in which a woman died after being assaulted by her abusive partner.
-
During the early hours of April 9, 2020, Daniela Espirito Santo was pronounced dead at her home in Grantham.
This was after she reported an assault by her partner Julio Jesus to Lincolnshire Police the previous day. Jesus attacked Ms Santo after he was released from police custody on bail for another assault matter.
An inquest took place in October 2024, which found that the 23-year-old was unlawfully killed. The jury concluded that domestic abuse and the assault caused emotional distress which triggered a heart condition and subsequent cardiac arrest.
