Out of bounds The leisure centre has been closed since the storm in January
Three companies are competing to carry out repairs to Helensburgh’s Leisure Centre, a councillor has said.
Questions were asked by the public about the process of fixing the building during a meeting of local councillors.
As well as reporting that the tendering process was taking place this week, Councillor Maurice Corry (Conservative, Lomond North) also labelled “absolute rubbish” a comment attributed to a fellow councillor that the building was “done”.
The leisure centre has been closed since Storm Eowyn on Friday, January 24.
A statement by Argyll and Bute Council on Friday, May 30 said that the building needed an entirely new roof and could be closed until as late as March 2026.
The discussion took place at a meeting of the authority's Helensburgh and Lomond area committee on Tuesday, June 10.
Dr Peter Brown, convener of Helensburgh Community Council, asked: “The council’s update on May 30 left many questions unanswered, such as whether the roof will be redesigned and how Live Argyll staff will be affected.
