BATTER LED CLUB TO A HISTORIC ONE-DAY CUP TRIUMPH IN 2023

- writes Charlie Hunt

Foxes hero Hill to retire from sport

LEWIS Hill will retire from cricket at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished Leicestershire career spanning more than a decade, writes Charlie Hunt.

A graduate of the club academy, Leicester-born Hill joined the professional staff in 2014 and has gone on to become one of the county's most respected players, representing the Foxes in 282 matches.

During his career, Hill has scored 8,434 runs for Leicestershire, including 13 centuries and 42 half-centuries.

His first-class record alone stands at 5,291 runs from 109 matches, with ten centuries and 28 fifties, while he also amassed 1,982 List A runs and a further 1,161 runs in T20 cricket.

Hill’s journey began with a memorable breakthrough in 2015.

Called into the side against Surrey at The Oval following an injury to Matthew Boyce, he seized his opportunity in remarkable fashion, scoring a maiden Championship century in only his second first-class match.

Then in June that same year, he was at the crease again to hit the winning runs against Essex at Chelmsford, helping Leicestershire end a 37-match winless run in the County Championship.
