PLANS INCLUDE PROVISION FOR 88 YOUNGSTERS IN 'QUIET AND CALM ENVIRONMENT'

- By TESS RUSHIN

Former community centre may become special school

A FORMER community centre could become a special needs school under plans submitted to Harborough District Council.

The school would educate 88 full-time pupils and employ 64 staff. Applicant the Aurora Group said it would open from 7am to 7pm on weekdays and close at the weekend.

The former Roman Way Community Centre, in Market Harborough, would be altered to house the school, with external alterations and the creation of a multi-use games area, parking and landscaping.

Plans state the school would be for young people with learning difficulties who need a quiet and calm environment that feels comfortable and “in no way institutional”.

Therapy spaces would be included, alongside individual breakout spaces for each classroom.
