Fire authority to vote on job-saving plan

COUNCILLORS were due to vote today on whether to accept officers’ recommendations to keep all 401 jobs at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

The service had proposed cutting eight positions when it planned to remove tactical response vehicles (TRVs) from Loughborough and Western stations.
However, extra government funding announced before Christmas means officers are now recommending the jobs be saved and the money put back into the service instead.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has already hailed as a success its campaign to avoid job cuts.
