Where is the love in Love Island? Time to bring back the romance

Temperatures are rising and so are heart rates. Why? Because Love Island is back. It's that time of year where the country's sexiest singles gather in a villa to couple up and have endless chats about who is their type on paper.

But for a dating show, Love Island feels remarkably lacking in romance.

Of course the latest series has only been on air for a week and it would be absurd to expect grand proposals or even mentions of the L-word.

However, I would expect something more flirtatious than the show's age-old pick up lines such as “I just want to see where your head is at” and “can I pull you for a chat?”

In the villa there is not much to do apart from pull and be pulled for chats. In these chats, we don't see islanders talk about much apart from previous chats they've had or the fact that they are having a chat right now. The main variety is location. Will this chat be by the pool? On the terrace? In the Hideaway? I'm on the edge of my seat...

The chats centre on connections as they debate questions such as if they've found the one or if they have a better connection with Islander A or Islander B.
