'We were so happy before and so much to look forward to. Everything is different now'

Preston Crown Court heard Mrs Joseph's victim statement in which she expressed the pain and horror she experienced after learning of the death of her son having no memory of the crash itself.

She said she and her husband had been hugely excited about the imminent arrival of their baby, who would be their first son and the first grandson for their parents. Her last memory before the crash, she said, was the dress she would wear at the baby shower where they planned to tell the family of the baby's gender.

In her statement, she said: “We were so happy before and so much to look forward to. Everything is different now.
