Can an assassin really retire? Well, Keeley Hawes certainly finds out, when her character in Amazon Prime series The Assassin decides to retire to Greece and put her violent past behind her.

Hitwoman reunited with son as she uncovers major conspiracy

Retired hitwoman Julie Green (Hawes) is living her best life on a Greek island and has become one of the regular fixtures in a small, quiet, unassuming community.

Suddenly her estranged son Edward (Freddie Highmore) turns up out of the blue seeking answers about his errant father and mother's past.

This is when her former life resurfaces and past misdemeanours come visiting to upset her Mediterranean idyll with nefarious figures aiming to bring her down.

After Julie is asked to do one last job, which she fails to fulfil after she smells a rat, both she and her son Edward find themselves hunted by dangerous figures connected to a huge conspiracy.

They begin to travel across Europe hounded by their pursuers, which tests their fragile and dysfunctional embryonic relationship, as together they uncover the conspiracy and face threats from all corners of the globe.
