Uri-Baramulla Road Widening Turns Nightmare For Commuters

The much-anticipated two-lane widening project of Uri-Baramulla road has turned into a daily ordeal for locals and commuters with various spots witnessing persistent traffic snarls, dust pollution, and growing environmental concerns for over a year.

Residents and daily travellers have expressed deep concern over what they describe as “poor planning and mismanagement” of the project. The road, which connects several key areas in north Kashmir, is currently under expansion, but the lack of proper workforce has resulted in daily inconvenience.

“Every day, we are stuck in traffic for hours. There's no proper traffic regulation, and the work goes on haphazardly without anyone overseeing it,” said Shafiq Ahmad, a local of main town Uri.
