Every day, nearly seven lakh people in uptown Srinagar turn on their taps hoping for clean water. But for fifteen days, what comes out has been muddy and unsafe.

The Doodhganga river meant to provide fresh drinking water, has been delivering something far from safe.

People began noticing the water's poor quality as turbid, foul-smelling liquid flowed into their homes. When Kashmir Observer investigated, a troubling truth was uncovered: essential chemicals like alum, which are necessary to clean the water, have been stuck in transit for days.
