Govt Liable For Live Wire Death, HC Cuts Compensation To 11.2 Lakh

Holding the government responsible for maintaining live electric supply lines, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh upheld its liability in the tragic death of a man struck by a high-voltage wire but revised the compensation amount awarded to his family.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Sanjay Parihar dismissed a government appeal challenging its responsibility but reduced the compensation from ₹24.3 lakh to ₹11.2 lakh, citing calculation errors in the earlier verdict.
