CM Orders Quick Flood Damage Assessment & Restoration

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday instructed concerned departments to fast-track flood damage assessments and expedite restoration works following heavy rains across the region.

The recent downpour triggered flash floods in rivers and drains, along with landslides and traffic disruptions in several districts. On September 18, the Chief Minister had noted that the floods caused widespread damage to public infrastructure, including 330 bridges and 1,500 km of roads, and destroyed private properties such as homes and agricultural fields.

"Chief Minister chaired a followup meeting today on post-flood rehabilitation and relief. He directed departments to fast-track damage assessments, expedite restoration works, and ensure the timely distribution of relief," the J&K Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.

Omar also emphasized that while connectivity has largely been restored, efforts must continue to reopen the remaining closed roads at the earliest to ensure smooth movement and aid distribution.

Officials said that all departments have been instructed to coordinate closely and prioritize the rehabilitation of affected areas.

The CM also reviewed the safety audit of schools undertaken after the floods, calling for the certification process to be fast-tracked.
