Westwood Lodge care home gets green light

COUNCIL planners have given the go-ahead for a 60-bed care home near one of Kent's biggest shopping centres.

The plans for a three-storey building at Westwood Lodge in Poorhole Lane, Broadstairs, close to Westwood Cross, were discussed by Thanet District Council's planning committee at their meeting on April 23.

It was the fourth time this year that the committee had considered the application, after a final decision was repeatedly deferred over fears for local woodland.

The home will be built on the grounds of the Grade II listed lodge and, following a site visit by councillors, it was confirmed that all the trees on the site will be maintained, except one pine and one sycamore.

The area where the care home will be built was previously used as a compound and temporary office for the construction of 153 houses in the northern part of Westwood Lodge's grounds, a scheme approved in 2021.
