Room To Improve star on how his hit show returning to telly can be 'scary'

- BY ERICA CARTER

TV presenter and architect Dermot Bannon has said it's "scary" coming back for another season of Room To Improve every year.

Dermot has been at the helm of the show for almost 20 years as it heads into its 17th season. That sort of longevity is hard to come by in TV, and while Dermot appreciates it, it also adds some pressure.

It’s a long time to be on TV - or “too long”, Dermot joked.

He said: “It doesn't feel like 17 years. It kind of only feels like I've been doing it for four or five years. Maybe they go quick because it is a bit of a rinse and repeat, you do the same thing. You start looking for homes in January and you're finished up in December.

“Those years have absolutely flown, I think it'd be a bit scary if it gets to 20 and you think, how did that happen?”
