MANCHESTER CITY are to step up their interest in Porto keeper Diogo Costa after another injury setback for No.1 Ederson.

Costa (left) is seen as the perfect replacement for the Brazil star, who is facing a fight to play again this season following a recurrence of the groin injury that has plagued him all year. The Portugal goalie has a £63million buy-out clause in a contract that still has two seasons to run.

That is likely to be too rich for City, but the incoming director of football has a strong relationship with the player's agent, Jorge Mendes - and the Blues believe an offer of £50m may be enough.
