Over-grateful to drivers who give way

AS I struggle to turn right onto the N67 from Sea Road at 8.48am, I am what Donald Trump might call a “school run loser".

There's traffic coming from the left of Galway and from the right of everywhere else. There's kids in the back, and a clock in the front that keeps ticking towards nine.

There's the radio - telling us all the latest bonkers things happening in the world. There's often a forgotten schoolbag, sometimes two.

The ticking indicator ticks. Time doesn't stand still - the only thing not moving is my Nissan Micra. Any man in these circumstances would begin to think Trump's right on the loser call.

But then, invariably, this will happen: an N67 motorist - perhaps the only thing that's likeable from the far right - will recognise my situation and stop.
