Troops safe after Leb drone strike

Irish UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, top, and destroyed homes on border with Israel

(FRONTIER)

THE Defence Forces have confirmed all their personnel in Lebanon are safe - after Irish United Nations peacekeepers there were caught up in an Israeli grenade attack.

One of the devices exploded 20 metres above the soldiers’ heads - while another detonated around 40 metres away.

The soldiers, who are part of Ireland’s 308-strong UNIFIL battalion on the frontier between Israel and Lebanon, were providing security for civilians rebuilding the war devastated area when the incident happened on Thursday.
