The Irish Prison Service spent almost €75,000 on premium TV channels and streaming services for inmates last year, new figures have revealed.
Every cell across the prison network has a TV, and every prisoner enjoys access to digital channels on these screens.
A total of €445,273 was spent on 2,304 “in-cell” TV sets by the IPS in 2023.
Premium channels, such as Sky Movies and Sky Sports, are available in the recreational areas of prison landings where inmates on an enhanced regime are accommodated.
