PRESIDENT IN SHOCK TIRADE

DONALD Trump erupted in fury yesterday after Israel and Iran fired missiles just before his ceasefire deal kicked in.

The seething US president lashed out at both sides before jetting off to the Netherlands to attend a Nato summit.

"You basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don't know what the f*** they're doing. Do you understand that?" he raged as he left the White House.

Mr Trump had triumphantly announced hostilities between the two warring enemies were over before each fired final salvos.

But the truce appeared to be holding last night. After expressing his frustration at both Israel and Iran for violating the deal, Mr Trump later said it was saved.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office later said he held off on a tougher strike against Iran after speaking to Mr Trump.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the fighting must stop. He said: "The people of the two countries have already suffered too much."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that though Iran and Israel have agreed on a ceasefire, the situation remains unstable. He said real negotiations can only begin once Israel halts its aggression.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced the "end of the 12-day war" imposed by Israel, in a message to the nation carried by the official IRNA news agency.

He said: "After the heroic resistance of our great nation, we are witnessing the establishment of a truce and the ending of this 12-day war imposed by [Israel's] adventurism and provocation."

Israeli Defence Chief of Staff Lt Gen Eyal Zamir warned that the campaign against Iran was not over, despite the ceasefire.
