  • POST-funk quartet Scustin are exploring the “weird and wonderful” characters found throughout the Irish pub in their debut album, Confessions Of A Pub Talker.

The LP, out later this year, is a modern concept record that tells the story of Larry, a barman in his mid-to-late 20s struggling to find his way amidst the social and economic uncertainties of modern Irish life.

“Larry works in a very busy pub in Bray by the name of the Harper Bar," Scustin vocalist Larry told The Scene ahead of the outfit's huge St Patrick's Day show in London.

"He's worked there for the guts of a decade, through most of his 20s. He's struggling to find his way, let's say, but amongst all that, he’s engaging with all these weird and wonderful people in the nooks and crannies of the bar.

"And I suppose there's a deeper element to it as well. When he asks about the Irish and their relationship with drink, and what that means and the pub, and how there's good bits of it and bad bits of it...

“I think in Confessions Of A Pub Talker, the name of the album, we tapped into the whole religious theme.
