Electric roadster from British icon stuns and wows

MG'S CYBER SPACE CADET

FEAST your eyes on this week's highly unusual test car - a Chinese-built electric roadster masquerading as a British icon and doing a bloody good job of it.

This scissor-doored stunner is the MG Cyberster, a high-performance batterypowered droptop with looks to die for.

The new incarnation of MG are largely known in Ireland for sensible electric/hybrid vehicles that adorn many a taxi rank the length and breadth of the country.

But being part of Chinese giant SAIC means the brand can take some risks and that's exactly the sort of environment that allows something as gloriously mad as this car to exist.

Talk about a headturner. I couldn't go to the local shops without a press release on the car at hand to answer the many questions complete strangers had about it.

So here's the most common ones answered to keep you in the loop.

Yes, it's all electric and has a power output equivalent to more than 330hp - meaning incredibly rapid acceleration even on the single motor version.

And yes, the doors only open upwards and have clever little sensors on them to avoid them cracking off anything that might be in the way.
