President leads tributes to writer and documentary maker Magan a ‘passionate advocate for the Irish language and culture’
TRIBUTES have poured in following the death of writer and documentary maker Manchán Magan at the age of 55.
The broadcaster, who was revered for his work with the Irish language, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023 which later spread through his lungs, brain and liver.
Manchán's family confirmed he died in his native Dublin on Thursday. A prominent and passionate champion of the Irish language, he was also noted for writing about his travels around the world.
President Michael D Higgins said he was “a truly singular person”.
He added: “It is hard to imagine how anyone else could have made such a broad and engaging contribution in bringing the beauty, depth and vitality of the Irish language to so many people, in Ireland and beyond.
“Manchán truly lived an inspirational life and helped so many people to find a deeper meaning in their lives.
