Batteries explode and missiles rain down on estate

AN EXPLOSION and fire at a recycling centre has been described as an "erupting volcano" by terrified residents.

Debris, including batteries, rained down on the area after the blast at Fenix Battery Recycling in Kilwinning, Ayrshire.

Ryan Wallace, whose house looks on to the centre, saw firefighters running for cover.
