Kidnap alert for officers at Mountjoy

PRISON officers in Mountjoy have been advised to review their personal security after a kidnap threat was issued.

The warning was given by jail bosses after intelligence information received by the Gardai.

Staff were informed of the plot to take one of them hostage after a meeting on Tuesday - two days before Christmas.

It is understood the kidnap plan had been hatched by senior criminals at the prison in response to a Mountjoy crackdown on illegal drone deliveries.

Senior management at the jail are refusing to let inmates out into the prison yard any time they learn of a possible drone delivery.
