Angry scenes as United are denied late winner

GALWAY UNITED were crying foul amid a fiery finish, having missed out on a smash-and-grab raid to end their winless run.

Tempers frayed on the final whistle as stewards had to step in to break up a tense exchange between some St Pat's supporters and Galway boss John Caulfield.

Without a win in their last nine league games coming here — and just one victory in 12 — Caulfield’s men thought they had scrambled all three points late in the game.

Patrick Hickey and Joseph Anang contested a high ball in the box, with the big Galway man then stabbing home for what looked to be a 82nd minute winner.
