|January 07, 2026
SINGER Imelda May is among many paying tribute to a popular publican who was allegedly stabbed to death in his own home.
The star, 51, who met tragic father-of-two Stephen McCahill at the Corner House pub in Ardara, Co Donegal, over the weekend, said she was heartbroken to learn of his suspected murder.
It comes as a musician who was known to Mr McCahill appeared in court charged with murder.
Mr McCahill was found with fatal stab injuries at his home in Ardara at around 3.50am on Monday and a suspect was arrested at another location a short time later.
In a social media post Ms May revealed she had attended a trad music event in Mr McCahill's pub shortly before his death.
She wrote: "Heartbroken to hear of the tragic and sudden death of the very special Stephen McCahill owner of the wonderful @corner-housebar_ardara and the glue to a whole community of Ardara.
"He was a great friend to my brother Brendan and sister-in-law Josephine as he was to so many.
"I was happy to see him again just Sat night (when we took this picture at the door) where he encouraged live music and joy and had his big smile and hugs ready as the night went along. Even offering people a lift home.
"I'm putting this post up not just as a thank you to him but so people can send messages so his family can see all the love being sent their way at this awful time.
"Much love to his family, friends, all of Ardara and wider Donegal community and all who'll miss him. Imelda XXX,"
Her tribute is among many who have spoken today of the well known businessman's good nature and exceptional service to the local community.
