Golden Bowie trio back together at last
DAVID Bowie's Berlin trilogy of albums was the most experimental period of his career, seeing him delve into krautrock, electronic music and ambient sounds, just two years after leaving glam rock behind to venture into funk and soul.
A significant part of Low and Heroes, both released in 1977, were recorded just a stone’s throw away from the Berlin wall, at Hansa Studios, after Bowie had moved to the German city with former Stooges frontman Iggy Pop in a bid to clean up together.
Bowie's Berlin trilogy is completed by 1979's Lodger, which saw the singer explore world music, although the majority of the record was recorded in Switzerland.
Key to shaping the sound of those records was the DAM Trio, made up of quitarist Carlos Alomar, bassist George Murray and the late Dennis Davies, the group's drummer.
Now, Murray and Alomar, who first played together on Station To Station (1976), are set to tour together again for the first time since 1979, having realised it was now or never.
