IRELAND'S dependence on foreign tech companies, from the US in particular, has been in the spotlight since the election of Donald Trump.

Foreign direct investment from Silicon Valley has been a huge part of our economic story.

But it overshadows the fact that cutting-edge research into new and disruptive technologies is going on at home too.

Almost half a billion euro from the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) has already been given to Irish firms to research the technologies that will be the businesses of the future.

This week another three received almost €30million.
