THE US paused its plan for immediate airstrikes on Iran but military action remains an option.

Donald Trump’s administration had threatened missile attacks in response to Iranian authorities’ violent clampdown on protests at the government.

But the US President shelved the mission. One Western security source told us: “It is highly likely the right targets could not be pinpointed, given the level of scrutiny on the streets of cities such as Tehran.

“It is also very important given the anti-regime sentiment of the protest that any strikes would avoid harming civilians.”

At the request of the US, the UN Security Council yesterday convened an emergency meeting to discuss Iran's protests.
