BERTIE Ahern believes he could have won the presidency as Fianna Fail's candidate, while the party has commissioned a report on its shambolic campaign.

Jim Gavin sensationally left the race after it emerged he owed a former tenant €3,300, which he's since repaid.

A withdrawal so late in the campaign was an embarrassment for the party, with leader Micheal Martin apologising to parliamentary members.
