McGregor & Trump slammed in Dail by TD amid protest call
THE Government and Ireland's US Ambassador have been urged to protest over Conor McGregor's visit to Donald Trump - which one TD described as "two rapists meeting each other".
The opposition have slated the MMA fighter's appearance in the Oval Office with the US President, with People Before Profits' Ruth Coppinger telling the Dail that "on St Patrick's Day, two rapists met each other in the White House".
Last November, McGregor was found liable in a civil case taken by Nikita Hand in which she alleged he raped her. He was ordered to pay €248,000 in damages.
In May 2023, a civil trial found Mr Trump liable for sexually abusing E Jean Carroll in 1996.
On the plinth, Labour's Duncan Smith called on Ireland's Ambassador to the US, Geraldine Byrne-Nason, or the Irish Government to write to the US administration and express their frustration over McGregor's invitation, during which he "purported [as] a representative or spokesperson for the Irish people".
He said: "I think this level of trolling by the Mr Trump administration to the Irish State, to our Taoiseach, to our people, by this invitation to someone like McGregor, who purported then to represent the views of Ireland, speaking on issues such as immigration and others, issues he knows absolutely nothing about, spouting a toxic agenda.
"I think this was an effort, again, in humiliation of the Irish state by the Trump administration with this entire act.
