Daily horrors unspool before numbed eyes, psychopathy and derangement and witlessness the gold-standard currencies of these warped times.

Demagogues sense their moment, dark lords wrap themselves in cloaks of depravity as they stir from their lairs.

Obama, for all his lyrical flourishes, for all the hugely consequential importance of his groundbreaking election and, for all that he made his liberal fanclub swoon, was a long way from a note perfect president.
