GARDAI have arrested a sports star over an attack that left a man fighting for his life.

- BY MICHAEL O'TOOLE Crime and Defence Editor

The Irish Star has learned the sports figure was one of three men arrested early on Tuesday morning over the attack in Co Mayo late last month.

Sources also tell us one of the two other men arrested over the attack in Castlebar in the early hours of Saturday, August 23, is closely connected to the sports star.

All three are being quizzed over the attack that left the alleged victim with serious head injuries.

The attack happened at around 2.50am in the Tucker Street area of the town.
