Victim sprayed in face with petrol and set alight as partner also hurt | 'Life changing' injuries suffered in terrifying daylight attack at home

- BY PAUL HEALY

A WOMAN was doused in petrol and set on fire after answering her front door to members of a crime gang, gardai believe.

The terrifying attack played out in broad daylight at the woman's home in Oak Downs, Clondalkin, west Dublin, at around 10am yesterday.

The attackers, who are suspected to be linked to a local criminal gang, sprayed the woman in the face with an accelerantbefore setting her alight and fleeing the scene.

Sources say her partner, who was also targeted in the incident at the front door, managed to duck the accelerant, and then desperately tried to put out the flames with his own hands.

Sources say the attackers deliberately targeted the woman and her partner.

Gardai are investigating if an alleged small debt the gang claimed to be owed sparked the terrifying assault.

Gardai do not believe the shocking attack was random, and it is understood this incident follows ongoing intimidation in the area.
