A VICTIM of child sex abuser Patrick Sharkey yesterday told the former teacher to “rot in hell”.

Sharkey was remanded in custody at Letterkenny Circuit Court and will be sentenced next month after admitting to 132 sexual offences against 19 young boys over a 25-year period.

The defendant preyed on his victims during his time as a teacher in Coleraine when he would regularly take them to his parents’ house in Clonmany for extra-curricular activities.

Several of Sharkey’s victims read out harrowing victim impact statements, outlining the deep and lasting consequences of his offending.

“Finally the victims will get justice after all these decades,” one man said, adding that he has been “mentally and emotionally scarred for 40 years”.

Turning to Sharkey, who sat without emotion in the dock, the man said: “I hope you rot in hell. This, I hope, is the end of it.”
