RTE has surely missed an open goal by not using The Traitors format to run our presidential election.

Sure, there might not be obvious similarities between the two. One is a cutthroat race featuring a cast of treacherous oddballs with weird, hidden agendas, ready to stab each other in the back to be the last man standing - the other is a reality TV show.

But think of the drama ~ and the ratings - if the prize at the end of the Irish Traitors was an all-expenses-paid life in the most luxurious gaff in Dublin, with a chauffeur, a cook and a whole team of people working day and night for you. The basic pay is €330,000 a year.
