Shane gutted by latest high-profile collapse

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

RYDER CUP hero Shane Lowry got snared by the Bear Trap and admitted the "hardest thing" about his latest meltdown was failing to win for the first time in front of his four-year-old daughter.

The Irishman shouldered enormous pressure to secure the half-point required to retain the Ryder Cup for Europe on Long Island last September.

But the 2019 Open champion has not won an individual event since the 2022 BMW PGA and made a double bogey at the 72nd hole while leading the Dubai Invitational in January. Then he chipped into the water from a greenside bunker.

However, the 38-year-old Offaly star suffered an even worse collapse on Sunday on the notorious run of holes from 15-17 at the PGA National Resort dubbed the Bear Trap.
