Inquest told Irishwoman survived blast to stomach
AN IRISH woman was shot by her ex-partner in an attempted murder-suicide following their breakup, an inquest in Australia has heard.
Eileen Gibbons' ex Ralph Donald, asked her "Do you want to die?" as he blasted her in the stomach when she tried to run away at the property in Darwin in October 2023.
The 39-year-old social care worker, from Co Mayo, was saved only when Donald's brother Charles put himself between the gunman and Ms Gibbons and began to drag her away while his sibling reloaded the weapon.
Seconds later, he heard another shot, but thought it was aimed at him and Ms Gibbons.
Ralph Donald had taken his own life.
