IT'S A HURL DIFFERENT BALL GAME NOW WITH DUBS FOR GANNON AND PAT

- PAT NOLAN

Lee sharp & raring to go with Gilroy..

THEY may have been ships in the night a few years back but Lee Gannon and Pat Gilroy will belatedly get to work together in 2023.

Gilroy's return to Dublin's senior football management team has now been confirmed, albeit his role is still unspecified.

It will be his first involvement at that level since stepping down as manager in the aftermath of the 2012 All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Mayo.

In the meantime, he spent a year at the helm of the senior hurlers in 2018, a season that was seen as progressive and brimming with potential ahead of the 2019 campaign before Gilroy surprisingly stepped down, citing work commitments.

It was at that stage that a teenage Gannon was added to the hurling panel by Gilroy's successor Mattie Kenny.

Who knows, maybe his hurling career would have developed differently had Gilroy hung in for the long haul.
