Tykes striker just can't stop scoring.. is he the answer to Heimir's striker shortage?

DAVID McGOLDRICK was on target again at the weekend to bring his tally to 12 goals in his last 13 League One appearances for Barnsley.

And the timing could prove crucial, with Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson set on Thursday to pick his squad for the World Cup playoffs.

Hallgrimsson has been robbed of the services of Evan Ferguson for the trip to Prague to face Czechia, while Adam Idah remains a doubt as he has yet to return to action. And so McGoldrick, despite retiring from international football almost six years ago, has come into the frame.

At the age of 38, and playing in League One, it would be an incredible story if he did make the cut.
