Fans entitled to better

LAST night I had a long, hard look at the Premier Division table and it doesn't make pretty reading.
-
Good luck to Shamrock Rovers, this is nothing against them.
But at the start of the season I thought we were gearing up for a three or four team title race.
I doubt I was alone in rubbing my hands together thinking 'we've proper challengers to lay down the gauntlet'. How wrong we were.
Depending on how results pan out this weekend, there's a chance the Hoops will tip over the 50-point mark, with their closest challengers all languishing in the 30s.
I find it all a bit depressing. Again, there's no blame on Rovers here. But as for the rest, it's been nowhere near good enough. We're over the halfway stage and nobody has laid a glove on Rovers and that's alarming.
There's an onus on clubs to be competitive and to be the best they can be.
I sound like a parrot, but there's a culture in Irish football of settling for second and third because it gets you European football and loads of money.
But it's a lazy thought process and a mentality that I just don't recognise.
