Donations after kids asked to bring own loo paper & towel

A RURAL community has rallied around its local school after a request for each child to bring their own toilet roll and towel highlighted a wider financial crisis.

Donations from businesses and parents to help Darver NS in Co. Louth after the appeal enabled principal Emily Scully to retract the initial email.

Instead a fundraising concert was held on Tuesday and a link to donate funds was added to the school's website.

Mrs Scully said: “Schools are slow to talk about the issue so parents aren't aware. People are only too willing to help and we are so grateful for their kindness.

“My purpose is teaching and learning and principals shouldn't be worrying at night about how to meet the next electricity or heating bill or who to pay first.

“In reality, what the Department pays doesn't cover the maintenance costs.

Other local principals have now rowed in on the funding gap for essentials.
