3 KILLED ON ROADS IN 12 HOURS

A YOUNG mum has become the third person to die on the nation's roads in just 12 hours.

The victim, who has been named locally as Emma Mackarel, lost her life in a collision in Co Monaghan yesterday.

The 37-year-old was from just outside Clones and was a mother of two. She died in an accident on the N2 close to Castleblayney.

Her car was in collision with a lorry at Annalitten at around 8am and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver, who is a foreign national in his 50s, was arrested and was still in custody at a Garda station last night. Gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
