Mum-of-two armed herself with knife and climbed on roof to evade police sparking three-hour stand-off

SHE SAID 'I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS - I PROMISE'

AN aggressive and hot-headed woman tried to outwit the police by arming herself with a kitchen knife and climbing out onto the roof of a flat - leading to a tense late-night stand-off lasting more than three hours.

Mother-of-two Ann Bennett hurled abuse at police and defiantly refused to come inside, leading worried officers to close nearby roads and call in negotiators and an ambulance. There were fears that she could easily slip, fall and cause herself serious injuries because the roof area was so small.

She had narrowly avoided prison last year for threatening to kill an ambulance crew member with a kitchen knife during another confrontation, Hull Crown Court heard.

Bennett, 33, of Trinity Road, Bridlington, admitted two offences of affray on February 17. She also admitted breaching a one-year suspended prison sentence, with 30 days' rehabilitation, imposed last year for making threats to kill on March 23 last year and using threatening words or behaviour on March 20 last year.
