FOR the past decade, actress Reese Witherspoon's production company, Hello Sunshine, has successfully adapted many female-authored books into hit television series.

From Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies to Celeste Ng's Little Fires Everywhere, these shows have featured star-studded casts and delivered high-quality, compelling drama.

Also on the list is The Last Thing He Told Me, adapted from Laura Dave’s New York Times bestseller, which premiered in 2023 and stars Jennifer Garner and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

In the series, Jennifer plays Hannah Hall, a fortysomething woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended when her husband Owen, played by Nikolaj, disappears, leaving her to care for her stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice).

The show returns for a second season, introducing new cast members including Rita Wilson and Judy Greer and picking up five years after Owen’s disappearance, with Hannah and Bailey having started new lives in Los Angeles.

When Owen suddenly reappears after years on the run, Hannah and Bailey must race to reunite their family before the past catches up to them.

Alias and Elektra star Jennifer, 53, says the show is at its heart a story of found family and resilience.

“It's really a story of a stepmother and a stepdaughter being put through the ultimate test and becoming family,” explains the Houston-born actress. “They've had to rely on each other so much that they have become as close as possible.”

“Hannah was caught so off guard by everything in season one,” she adds.
