Hull hand Giants first victory as tempers flare in Newcastle
Hull Daily Mail
|May 05, 2025
Hull FC had spoken about discipline all week, but it was discipline that was found wanting in a poor 12-10 Magic Weekend defeat to Huddersfield Giants.
-
The Black and Whites cut a frustrated and disjointed unit throughout, and that fact came to an ugly head just before the half-time hooter.
With just ten seconds remaining of the first half, Liam Knight was dismissed for making head contact with Huddersfield forward Sam Hewitt. And after a lengthy review, there was only going to be one outcome.
There was shoulder contact to the head and, crucially in the officials’ opinion, no mitigation, with no dip ruled from the ball carrier. In today’s game, and by the letter of the law, it's a red card.
But it shouldn’t mask what was a poor first-half performance from Hull. They were off the pace from the get-go in what was a below-par and jaded account at Newcastle's St James’ Park.
