Cust's 'vindicated' after derby red card

JOHN Cartwright believes there is some vindication for Hull FC half-back Cade Cust after the player received no suspension following his red card in Good Friday's Hull derby.

Cust was dismissed in the 16th minute the first red card of the 2025 Super League season - despite an unavoidable contact with Hull KR full-back Arthur Mourgue.

However, the Match Review Panel has added no significant further punishment, with just three penalty points landing on the player's record after a Grade C Head Contact charge.

That leaves Cust free to play for Hull against Wigan tomorrow, with Cartwright airing a firm stance on the incident.

The Hull head coach has stated there was 'no other place' for Cust to go, who competed hard for the ball on a kick chase with a clash unavoidable. Cartwright also said cards should be for genuine foul play, ones involving 'swinging arms, elbows, knees, and the like.
