OFFICERS TO BE FUNDED BY GOVERNMENT CASH BOOST

- By ANDREW SPENCE

38 new police recruits

HUMBERSIDE Police is set to recruit 38 new Neighbourhood Policing Officers funded by a Government cash boost.

The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer has announced plans to introduce a named, contactable police officer for every neighbourhood in the country. The announcement forms part of the Government's Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee which hopes to put 13,000 more police officers into neighbourhood policing roles by 2029, an increase of more than 50 per cent.

Upon announcing the funding, Sir Keir said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure on the streets they call home. It is just about the most basic right that anyone would expect. Yet for years crimes such as shoplifting and antisocial behaviour have wreaked havoc on our neighbourhoods. Policing has become reactive, picking up the pieces after crimes have occurred.
