A MAN caught trying to enter the UK illegally at Holyhead said he only intended to stay for two days.
-
Romanian national Gica Matei (pictured) knew he had previously received a deportation order but said he thought it only lasted two years.
In fact, it was an indefinite order, Caernarfon Crown Court heard.
Matei, 33, of no fixed address, admitted knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order, and a judge jailed him for eight months.
The court heard that the defendant, who had been living in Ireland, was stopped at Holyhead on April 23 this year.
Prosecutor Molly Broster said the defendant told officials he didn’t know how long the order had been for and “couldn't afford an immigration advisor”.
